111 Metro Bus Schedule
Early in the morning, Metro Bus 305 drove through South Los Angeles, carrying passenger Patricia Smith on her daily commute.

For 50 minutes, the orange bus traveled northwest, taking Smith directly from his home to UCLA, where he works as manager of faculty support services at the UCLA Anderson School of Management.
But starting June 17, Smith will have to look for other modes of transportation. The 305 Metro line will be permanently closed to accommodate the new Expo light rail line that will cross Los Angeles, said Rick Jaeger, a spokesman for LA Metro.
“The line is kind of like a ladder,” Jagger said. “We have a lot of lines from east to west and north to south, so there’s a lot of duplication of services.”
Financially, the line requires more subsidies than other bus lines in the metro system, he added.

About 45 students and faculty at UCLA will be affected when the line is closed, said David Krawski, senior associate director for planning, policy and traffic systems at UCLA Transport.
The direct nature of the trail leaves motorists with no similar alternative in taking drivers from South Los Angeles to the West Side, as there is no other sustainable route from Westwood to the part of South Los Angeles served by the 305.
For Smith, who rides the bus from Monday to Friday, the change means losing the comfort and reliability he’s been accustomed to for three years. Since a year ago, he has created two petitions against Metro’s decision which has made little progress “” even though others have signed it and submitted it to Metro.
“There are other buses you can take, but (with this line) you don’t have to change,” said Smith. “Without this line, I would have to take two buses” “Three if I don’t want to walk.”

The proposed Expo Line, which runs east to west, won’t be convenient for those using line 305. Feeder buses would run to the Expo Line, but that would still mean an expensive and time-consuming transfer for motorists, Karowski said.
While he has a car, he says he prefers to take the bus for environmental reasons, and avoids driving to work in the morning traffic.
“People know each other,” said Smith. “In the dark months, in the winter, people see you.”
Other riders who take the line less frequently say they will miss the Metro 305 if it passes.

Brian Lee, an unannounced sophomore, said he took the route twice a month to visit relatives in South Los Angeles.
To accommodate the closing queues, Lee said he should look at alternative routes, and may travel less frequently to see relatives.
And some riders have made changes to their itinerary. Several arms have switched to Metro 2, with some routes overlapping.
“I’m very committed (to this bus), but I have to accept that it’s going to break,” said Smith. “I had to adjust, I didn’t like it.”

The NextGen bus plan was approved by the Metro Board of Directors in October and the Metro Services Board in August — as well as a public hearing in the summer. The remaining NextGen bus plan route changes will be implemented as part of the June 2021 and December 2021 changes.
As part of this round of service changes, we are also adding travel in our busy lanes to support social distancing.
The official Metro transit app has also identified routes in the app that are changing, removing or receiving additional services. The app has a preview mode to give you an overview of the changes to the service. Here’s how to activate it:
3. Under “Bus”, turn off “Metro” and turn on “Metro” (starting from December 13th). Then tap “Done.” This will show you how the bus network will look from the beginning of December 13th.
