CHENNAI: With teachers across the state lamenting the workload of submitting student attendance and information on the Education Management System (EMIS), the school department has released a new mobile application for marking the arrival of teachers and students. in government and aided schools.

The new system will come into effect next month and officials said the ‘TN SED Attendance’ application has been revised following complaints from teachers. “It will provide a simple interface with few buttons. The enrollment option in the application of the old TNSED schools will be canceled from January 1. In the new app, the office of the Chief Education Officer will provide the information about the holidays announced for each district, the principals can indicate the holidays of the region or the school.” they added.

However, many teachers have expressed concern about the new application, because they have to attend in the morning and in the evening. “It should be noted that the workers came twice. Most of the state’s 36,000 primary schools have only two teachers. The teacher must spend 30 minutes in the morning and evening to come and eat during his teaching time. The main reason we have raised objections to these actions is that schools across the country are already reeling under staff shortages,” a teacher told TNIE.

Although the lack of proper internet information in rural areas was cited as one of the reasons why teachers do not update their attendance online, the new system can update the information at any time even without online, unless the teacher opts out of the application. . “Teachers can view the attendance history of students over the past week, month, term and year by request. Added an opportunity for teachers to request a leave of absence. It will also be updated in the second and last week of every month to avoid confusion,” the officials added.
